Mission

WE ARE COMMITED TO EMPOWERING BLACK EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS WHO LEAD YOUTH-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS.

The Black Executive Director Alliance of Detroit's (BEDAD) mission is to strengthen and develop Black Executive Directors of youth-serving organizations to achieve long-term, holistic impact on youth in Detroit and surrounding communities.

WE BELIEVE THAT INVESTING IN LEADERSHIP IS INVESTING IN IMPACT

By fostering collaboration, professional growth, and strategic development, we ensure that youth-focused organizations are positioned to provide holistic and sustainable support for the next generation.

Through mentorship, capacity-building initiatives, and advocacy, BEDAD works to break down barriers, elevate leadership, and create a thriving ecosystem where Black-led organizations can flourish. Our goal is simple but powerful: to create lasting, transformative opportunities for both leaders and the young people they serve.

Join us in our mission to uplift leadership, strengthen communities, and shape a brighter future for Detroit’s youth.

OUR CHALLENGE: UNDER RESOURCED

Black nonprofits tend to be disproportionately underfunded. As strong and as appreciated as our volunteer and donor communities are, there is a collective need for funding sources in covering the cost of the staff development and facilities, ultimately making the programs impzossible to carry out.
